QGIS projects: customer action required by the 14th of March

As part of a continuous schedule to ensure that third party applications on hosted iShare servers are kept up to date, we will begin removing all version 2 QGIS installations on the 14th of March 2025.

We have already installed the QGIS 3.34 Long Term Release (LTR) on all iShare servers in readiness.

Please note that there will be no disruption to services while we undertake this maintenance work.

What do we need to do by the 14th of March?

Please log onto your iShare server and do the following:

  • Check which QGIS projects you need to keep
  • Delete any unused projects
  • Check that any current QGIS projects will open, edit and save changes in QGIS 3.34
  • If a project doesn’t open, isn’t editable or changes don’t save, please try using your previous version of QGIS to identify any issues
  • If you believe there are any issues caused by the new version of QGIS, please contact us via the  Support Portal (referencing QGIS 3.34 testing)

How can we access QGIS 3.34?

You will see a QGIS 3.34.14 folder on your system. You can also access this from the Start Menu.

What happens if we don’t take action by the 14th of March?

All QGIS version 2 installations will disappear from your hosted iShare servers. Your current QGIS projects will remain intact. However, if you do experience problems opening projects in QGIS 3.34, it will be harder to identify what’s causing the issue. Carrying out the steps above prior to the 14th of March will make it easier to identify and resolve any issues. In addition, this is the ideal opportunity to clear out any unused projects and familiarise yourself with your current projects and QGIS 3.34.

When will you roll out the latest LTR version of QGIS?

We will be rolling out version 3.40 (LTR) in April 2025.

Other recommendations from our team

For your own peace of mind it’s worth checking your on premise installations to see if QGIS needs updating to a supported version. Keep an eye on the QGIS website to ensure you have a supported version within your organisation.

If we have questions, who should we contact?

You can contact our team via the Support Portal.
