A new website
We have a new website with a refreshed design and content. We'll be adding lots more over the coming months.
Notable features include a brand new home page with configurable content 'mini blocks', long pages with navigable sections and lots of imagery. The home page in particular will help keep you informed about what we are up to.
From a customer viewpoint we will use the website to post more blog like pieces, more helpful documentation and 'how to' articles. It is also a place where we can showcase your work so please let us know if you would like your site to feature.
The site is also fully responsive so please take a look on your mobile or tablet. Built using the Django framework the site also uses our old friend PostgreSQL which is the database running in the background. We hope you like it.
Switching to Open Source GIS just got easier
Astun has been appointed to the LASA (Local Authority Software Applications) and G-Cloud procurement frameworks.
With our appointment to both frameworks simplifying the procurement process and the availability of iShare as a completely managed service, switching to Open Source GIS has just got easier.
Both the LASA and G-Cloud frameworks seek to drive savings for the tax payer and to enable local government to secure transformation, better interoperability, open systems and provide opportunities for collaboration.
You can find out more about the LASA framework and all the procurement options by visiting our web page.
You can find us on the G-CloudStore here.
Astun User Group
After the very successful Enterprise GIS Roadshows which took place in June and July we are beginning to plan for our next Astun User Group events. These are likely to take place towards the end of November or beginning of December.
We are very keen to get more user content and experience because that's the way users can really benefit. If you are keen to do a presentation and share your insights and learning to let others benefit from your experience please get in touch with your regional Vice-Chair, Richard Lewis or Mike Smith.
Ordnance Survey INSPIRE licensing terms
Some of you may think that it is difficult to abide by Ordnance Survey's INSPIRE licensing terms but actually the service we provide delivers data by WMS/WFS. That means we are not bound by some of the license terms that people have been worrying about. Of course you may not be worrying about it at all but if you are and want some further clarification it's all here... in purple and white!
We are putting some guidance notes together to help you further, but if you are concerned in the meantime please don't hesitate to contact us.
New sites and ADS
Here are some smart new iShare sites you might like to browse:
You can find more on our new Customer page.
There is now an impressive collection of base mapping available as WMS from ADS (Astun Data Services). If you would like a demo please contact us.
