Data Integration
Some companies talk about it, we've done it with over 50 systems...
Date Share, was originally created to enable non-spatial lookups from back office databases but it now sports a new workflow module so that data can be manipulated to enable spatial queries on the fly for a particular use elsewhere. It now does far far more...
Savings through efficient web delivery
The savings accrue from the fact that Councils do not have to pay additional software licenses for web delivery of their existing data. Data Share effectively sucks data out of the corporate data store and then caches it into a separate open source database used by iShare. Key applications remain completely unaffected creating a resilient solution for public facing applications especially services delivered through council websites. Why not have a look at the systems we have integrated with iShare.
Walk the walk...
Integration, so long the bugbear of organisations with multiple systems, is now much easier and can mean huge cost savings for councils. Data Share, our data harvesting engine can now integrate with ESRI CAPs/ArcSDE, GeoStore and other established spatial data warehouse solutions as well as pull data from over 50 other council systems. Data Share is also extendable through the use of standard VB scripts. This functionality can be used to create ‘mashups’ of external data such as travel news from BBC RSS feeds. But as always there is much more.
OpenData agenda
Data Share is now being implemented by multiple clients to fulfil their OpenData agenda in a simple and efficient manner. Datasets being considered include:
- Recent planning apps – RSS, KML
- XML list of councillors - RSS, KML
- Libraries – point dataset - GeoRSS, KML
- Polling stations – point dataset - GeoRSS, KML
- Carparks – point dataset - GeoRSS, KML
- Play areas – point dataset - GeoRSS, KML
- District boundaries – KML
- District wards (linked to the above Councillor lists) – KML
- Parish – KML
- CCTV camera locations – point dataset - GeoRSS, KML
- Secondary schools - GeoRSS, KML
- Primary schools - GeoRSS, KML
- Roadworks
- Listed buildings - GeoRSS, KML
Example at Surrey Heath Borough Council
At Surrey Heath for example data is spatially manipulated (through some intelligent land parcel buffering) to ensure that a citizen only sees planning applications relevant to him or her. Built using tasks and scheduled jobs, the control panel makes iShare even more capable of producing rich citizen focussed solutions.
