Surrey Heath Signs OEA
Open Source Foundations for Surrey Heath
Surrey Heath Borough Council has signed an iShare Open Enterprise Agreement (OEA). The move to a virtual server environment gave the Council an opportunity to review their ageing data arrangements which have now been replaced by a modern Open Source spatial data warehouse solution.
The foundation of this solution is a PostGIS database which stores all the authority's vector data, including OS MasterMap and many map configuration files. PostGIS also provides the mapping for the Land Charges and Planning systems.
Not only has the OEA enabled Surrey Heath to update its data provisioning and protect its initial iShare investment but also to enhance it with citizen’s alerts and iShare GIS which will rolled out to over 150 users. Additional back up and security measures have been put in place to ensure resilience. The OEA provides additional peace of mind in the form of additional consultancy, maintenance, technical support, advice and training. What’s more the new arrangements have enabled the Council to affect the transition at minimal cost.
