This module provides essential intranet GIS capabilities and can be made available council-wide. Enables all council staff to use the power of geographic information. Powerful search, measuring and printing, with unlimited layers and map sources.
GIS is browser based with a simple user interface using ‘ribbon toolbars’ à la MS Office. This provides access to all the functionality - GIS specific tools - ‘Output’ i.e. print, copy and paste, save to file - ‘Find’, by address, by feature and find nearest - ‘Map Content’ with access to a comprehensive layers palette. The ribbon bar also holds the view and selection/measuring tools. There are also lots of aids to map navigation.
The measuring tools are very simple to use, you simply click on the start and end locations of the distance you want to measure. Multiple clicks will be added to provide an overall distance. Double click to finish. You can also measure areas. Click points on the map to build an enclosed area. For example the four corners of a house or a field. Double click to finish. There are two selection tools circular and polygon. These enable the user to select all the features from all visible selectable layers on the map. There’s also a tabbed information browser which lists information from different layers within a defined selection area. If you need a list of all properties within an area for example the browser will display information from the LLPG. Hovering over a row in the browser with the cursor will highlight the feature on the map This data can be filtered and exported as either a CSV or XLS file.
The GIS module also contains comprehensive search features. To find an address click on the tool enter a string (Postcode, street name etc.) and a list of matching addresses will be displayed. If you can see the entry that you want, select it from the list. To see more entries click Show Full Results and you will be able to page through the results. If you wish to refine your search click Reset Search and start again. You can also search for Features and Nearest. In each case a drop down list is displayed from which you can select and then view the results on the map.
