What our customers think of iShare and Astun Technology
It is important for us that we work in partnership with our clients
South Tyneside Council
“We started using iShare from Astun Technology in 2004. It started life as a web mapping portal but its capabilities now stretch far beyond that. We now have what we consider to be a complete data integration and publishing platform with Open Source GIS components at its core. It is delivering real cost savings, improving service delivery and enabling greater engagement with our citizens.”
David Bowman, Former, Assistant Head of Policy – South Tyneside Council“We are absolutely delighted with our performance in the SOCITM 2009 and 2010 ‘Better Connected’ surveys. The iShare platform has enabled considerable technical innovation, mostly through the integration of data from other systems. It enables us to control the look and feel so that it matches the rest of our website and to control content. Now we not only gather and then publish information through our website providing transactional opportunities along the way but also manipulate it using simple automated GIS routines and publish it directly to citizens’ own email in boxes.”
Roger Abbott, Web and Publishing Team Leader – South Tyneside CouncilThe Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
“We are thrilled with the performance of our website in the 2009 SOCITM survey, and the fact that we received an excellent rating for ‘Usability’. We have been working closely with Astun Technology for the last three years to develop the mapping service as a key part of our website and the delivery of information to our citizens.”
Melanie Harper, Web Manager - The Royal Borough of Windsor and MaidenheadSurrey Heath Council
“Planning policy are raving about this and have said that the comments
that are coming in off the site are way better, more detailed and more
constructive than they would ever get in as part of a normal
consultation process.
We have a very big consultation to do later next year on housing
allocation sites in the borough and they are really keen to use iShare
for that now too!!

Return on investment
'Mole Valley & Me is an exciting new development for the council’s online customer service delivery. By providing 24/7 access to a wide range of facilities and information online, we are hoping customers will self-serve more at a time that suits them, so improving accessibility to our services whilst reducing costs. Mole Valley & Me offers individual information to residents about where they live ranging from which day their bin is collected, to what council tax band they are in, with additional information such as where to find the nearest library easily available. But however impressive this is now, it is just the start and we know that we can continue to add information from different systems that customers will find useful... We have already had some very positive feedback from our customers.' Councillor Kathryn Westwood, Portfolio Holder for Communities.
'We submitted an article to the Ordnance Survey about a month ago. Wasn't sure it was going to get used so hadn't publicised until now. However, to our amazement, it was featured as part of the SOLACE conference that hosted senior figures from the DCLG! I think (looking at current usage stats) that we underestimated the success a little too.'Robert Steele, GIS Manager
